Reese's Orange Peanut Butter Pumpkins

Their may be no more traditional Halloween treat than the Reese's Peanut Butter Pumpkin!  For as long as I can remember, the Peanut Butter Cup spin-off has been a part of my Halloween experience.  I remember getting tons of them as I Trick-or-Treated with my cousins down the shore.  The pumpkin shape was always simple, much like the Peanut Butter Cup, but the wrapper truly set it apart from what we're used to.  Whether it was that spooky purple background, fall leaves, or a more classic orange design, the art is just as nostalgic as the candy, itself.  Just looking at retro images on Google is enough to get my head spinning in a Halloween 'daze!  But, this year, there's something new!  Or, is it?

I've only been covering Halloween candy since 2011, but I've been a fan of all that comes with it since I was a child.  Usually, I can tell you when something is brand new for the season, but this is one I'm not entirely sure about.  I can certainly tell you that I've personally never seen or tried these, but that doesn't mean they weren't around in the past.  I can't find any evidence of their prior existence, but there's no doubt that ORANGE Reese's Peanut Butter Pumpkins exist in 2014!!

As usual, I walked through the Target aisles in search of things I've never experienced.  We've covered a lot in recent years, so I like looking for products that have never been featured.  As I glanced to my right, I saw that white big with the giant Reese's logo centered on the bag.  At first, I figured it was a bag of white chocolate Peanut Butter Cups.  That would have been cool, but nothing I'd bring home to write about.  But after a double-take, I realized this was something completely different.  Once I saw that orange pumpkin in the top-right corner, it was over.  Whether it was white chocolate or not, this was in my cart.  Done deal.

Like I said when reviewing the Orange Halloween Kit-Kat bars, it doesn't take much for me to waste money on Halloween products.  If a company changes the packaging to or the color of a legendary product I've eaten year after year, it's a guaranteed sale.  For one, it enhances my Holidazae.  But two, it proves that they care about the consumer and want to give them something new and fresh to enjoy.  Look, this season, the first Halloween candy I bought was an individually packed Reese's Peanut Butter Pumpkin.  I bought one for me and one for my girlfriend as a little something to kick off the season.  When it comes to tradition and nostalgia, Reese's gets my money every year.  But the fact that they've dyed their pumpkins orange, in addition to re-releasing the chocolate variety, is proving that they'll go the extra mile for Hallowgeeks, like me.  Hershey is killin' it, this year!

Isn't it amazing how a simple change in color can make all the difference?  Just like those Kit-Kat's, now we're looking at candy completely decked out in the spirit of Halloween.  Sure, cool package designs and shaping yourself into a pumpkin is an awesome costume for the good ol' chocolate Peanut Butter Cup.  But completely changing your appearance by going orange?  Now you're winning the costume contest!  This is phenomenal and it allows me to completely overlook the shape of these pumpkins.  They look more like Oompa Loompa fists than pumpkins, but who the hell cares?  These are ORANGE Peanut Butter Pumpkins!

Now, you'd assume that these are actually White Chocolate Peanut Butter Pumpkins.  That's what I figured when I bought them, but it's not listed anywhere on the bag.  In fact, after tasting these Orange Peanut Butter Pumpkins, I noticed no difference between traditional Chocolate Pumpkins.  I don't want to tell you that this isn't White Chocolate because, honestly, it only makes sense that they would be.  But in terms of flavor, I can't tell the difference and that's what makes this even better!  If you're a fan of traditional Reese's Peanut Butter Pumpkins, then you're going to love these Orange Peanut Butter Pumpkins!!
